Welcome to DWD Bites, your not-so-average guide to Detroit and Michigan’s big ol’ food and drink scene. We’re gettin' into everything from mom and pop's, hidden diners to hipster breweries, classic nostalgia, new nice, old grimey and we’re not stopping until we’ve sampled every food truck, wine bar, side of the road BBQ and questionable carnival snack this state has to offer. Whether it’s deep-fried, locally sourced, or just drenched in yesteryear, we’re going to eat it, sip it, slam it, over-indulge in it and tell you all about it.
We’ll get everything and like it! Detroit and Michigan's food scene is a tradition and mad innovation, offering a landscape that shocks many that aren’t down with Detroit. It isn't just about coney dogs and craft beer—though those staples are sacred. Detroit's dining experience spans soul food havens to the sophisticated menus where Midwest ingredients are elevated with creative flair. The pleasant peninsula’s food ecosystem thrives with everything from fresh Great Lakes fish to farm-to-table feasts.
'Tis been said, the most important things to do in the world are to get something to eat, something to drink and somebody to love you. We'll cover the first two and lean into the second one for sure. The third is up to you and we'll be introducing you to some of the spots where you may find true love. Even on flag day.
Michigan's craft beverage scene is dope as hell, too. Beyond the banging beer culture, Detroit and Michigan distilleries are crafting booze that capture the essence of the city and state’s gritty resilience and rich history. The vineyards of Old Mission Peninsula, producing world-class Rieslings that stand up to European counterparts...maybe… And let’s not forget the cideries—blending Michigan apples into crisp, nuanced ciders that are as complex as any wine….maybe, again. Either way, eat drink and be merry, for tomorrow…well nevermind.
Put it on the Underhill’s account, we’re grubbing up good!
We'll explore a range of dining and drinking options, from affordable local favorites to high-end culinary experiences - if we sell enough t-shirts. By offering tips on where to find the best deals, seasonal specials, and value-for-money menus, we'll ensure that there's something for everyone, no matter their budget.
